Picnic at Mt. Charleston

We decided it was time to escape the heat for the afternoon and evening and headed up to Mt. Charleston for a picnic. This family belongs in the great outdoors. What a happy afternoon!

We let Calvin practice roasting a hot dog for the first time. Don't worry - we didn't make him eat that one. Although he would have.

"Me big, tough man. Me cook on fire. Me tough when me walk around with match in mouth."

So happy to be outside in a place where only the food is cooking!

This girl never stops smiling when we are in the mountains.

Make sure you get every last bit of that marshmallow.

Tooth Fairy

Finally! We have been anticipating this day for months. She lost the tooth Wednesday and wanted to save it and take it to school for show and tell on Friday. We were able to convince her that she needed to leave it under her pillow if she wanted something from the tooth fairy. Fortunately, she decided that her prize (which turned out to be two 50 cent pieces) would be a better show and tell than a bloody tooth. It's funny, but even though she knows there is no Santa Claus, she is still having a hard time letting go of the Tooth Fairy.

Swim Lessons!

Ahhh! Time for swim lessons again. This is the girls' favorite part of summer. And they are turning into a couple of little fish.

Doesn't it look nice and cool in there? Imagine me standing in the 100+ heat off to the side. I think I need swim lessons too.

The Garbage Box

I told the kids I was tired of picking up their toys and brought in a toy garbage box. Anything I had to pick up went in the box. Whatever was in the box at bedtime was going in the garbage. Here is a picture of the first piece of garbage I found in our box.

Calvin's Birthday - He's 2

[The following entry was posted by Tim.]
Nothing says “We want to celebrate but it’s been a long day and we don’t want to make a huge mess, and he’s only 2 so he won’t know the difference anyway” more than green and orange cupcakes! Now blow the candles out already, sheesh.

It’s always good to have a few extra hands to help open presents. His favorite one was the Home Depot Toolbox (Dad says), which now gives him the green light to hammer on anything he wants (walls and sisters are some of his favorite targets). Not pictured (because Dad won’t allow it) are the baby blue stroller and purple baby – too bad this boy doesn’t have a brother!

We also had family visiting for his birthday, which meant more presents, more food, and balloon animals! Well, kind of, in the end everything ended up being either a worm, snake or sword.

Dance Recital

The pictures from the actual recital didn't turn out, but here's a shot of the costumes. Wow. That's about all I can say. Wow.
